Redispersible polymer powder (RDP) is the dry, free-flowing form of a polymer latex. It is made by spray-drying an aqueous polymer emulsion — most commonly a VAE (vinyl acetate-ethylene) copolymer or another vinyl-acrylate system — together with a protective colloid (typically polyvinyl alcohol) and an anti-caking additive. The result is a white powder that redisperses in water on the stir of a mixer and rebuilds the same kind of polymer latex the dry-mix mortar industry uses to upgrade plain cement binders.
RDP is the bridge between a liquid latex (which cannot be stored or shipped in dry form) and a dry-mortar bag (which cannot carry a liquid ingredient). By spray-drying the latex into a powder, the formulator gets a polymer that survives bag storage, dry blending and long-haul transport, then rehydrates into a working latex during mortar mixing. As the cement cures, the polymer particles fuse into continuous films that bond the cement matrix to the substrate, to the aggregate and to the next layer of the system.
Our redispersible polymer powder is offered in four grades to cover the full range from high-strength rigid mortars to flexible, crack-bridging systems. Every grade is tested in our laboratory before release; a certificate of analysis is issued for every production batch.

Once the polymer film forms in the hardened mortar, RDP is responsible for the performance jumps that distinguish a polymer-modified product from a plain cement one. Four use cases dominate.
RDP turns an ordinary C1 cement adhesive into a C2-class product — higher bond strength on every substrate, longer open time for slow-fix tile layouts, and slip resistance for large-format and porcelain tiles. The polymer film is the reason the tile stays on the wall, not the cement.
Semi-Flexible RDP gives cementitious waterproofing slurries the crack-bridging ability they need over moving substrates — swimming pools, balconies, wet rooms and below-grade structures where rigid cement alone would crack.
In external insulation systems, RDP delivers the flexibility and impact resistance the base coat needs to follow thermal movement of the insulation board. The polymer bridges the bond line between rigid insulation and the rendering mesh.
RDP-modified plasters and renders adhere to a wider range of substrates, sand more easily and finish to a smoother, more uniform surface — even over critical backgrounds such as concrete, aerated blocks or old renders.

It is a polymer latex that has been spray-dried into a free-flowing powder. When the powder is mixed with water again, it redisperses into the same kind of liquid latex that the dry-mortar industry uses to upgrade plain cement binders. RDP = the dry, storable form of a polymer latex.
No. A polymer latex is a liquid emulsion with about 50% water. RDP is the same polymer with the water removed through spray drying, plus a protective colloid (usually polyvinyl alcohol) and an anti-caking additive so it can be stored as a powder and re-emulsified on demand.
Most commercial RDP uses polyvinyl alcohol (PVA / PVOH) as the protective colloid. The PVA wraps each polymer particle during spray drying, keeping it from fusing with its neighbours in the bag, and then dissolves again when the powder is mixed with water — which is what allows the powder to re-emulsify cleanly.
The four grades differ mainly in glass transition temperature (Tg), and therefore in how rigid or how deformable the cured film becomes. Rigid RDP (Tg +10 to +25°C) delivers the highest tensile bond (≥0.8) with elongation below 10% — the choice for tile adhesives and rigid renders. Semi-Flexible RDP (Tg -5 to +10°C) and Hydrophobic RDP (Tg -10 to +5°C) balance a high tensile bond (≥0.6) with moderate elongation, and the Hydrophobic grade adds excellent water repellency for wet and exterior systems. Flexible RDP (Tg -15 to -5°C) pushes elongation above 50–100% and is chosen where crack-bridging matters most — ETICS base coats, flexible waterproofing slurries and repair mortars over moving substrates.
Yes. RDP is compatible with gypsum, ordinary Portland cement, calcium aluminate and calcium sulfoaluminate binders. Because gypsum sets much faster than cement, the open time of a gypsum/RDP system is shorter — the dosage and cellulose ether pairing should be tuned in a small laboratory trial before scaling up.
